BOWL WEEK REPORT: Apps Arrive in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. - The App State football team traded the cool and windy air of the High Country for warm and muggy in south Alabama on Tuesday as the Mountaineers began their week of festivities that will culminate with Saturday's Dollar General Bowl.

After arriving via charter jet in the early afternoon, the team settled into the Renaissance Riverview Plaza before the evening welcome party officially kicked off bowl week. Players, coaches and staff of both App State and Toledo enjoyed a classic Gulf Coast meal of shrimp and grits, catfish, turkey, green beans and mac & cheese while being welcomed by the people of Mobile.

The Mobile mayor presented each school's athletic director with a key to the city, and opposing head coaches (and good friends) Scott Satterfield and Jason Candle met with media and posed with the crystal bowl trophy that one of their teams will claim Saturday night in front of the Ladd-Peebles Stadium crowd and an ESPN national television audience.

Satterfield's Mountaineers will continue preparations for the game with practices each of the next three days, while also enjoying the sights and sounds of Mobile through activities like bowling night and lunch on the USS Alabama battleship. The team's seniors will also spend part of Wednesday morning visiting with children at the USA Children's and Women's Hospital.

In a new twist this year, college football's early signing day will take place Wednesday. For up-to-date information on bowl week and signing day, keep your browser open to appstatesports.com and follow @AppState_FB and @appstatesports on Twitter.
