Postgame Notes From App State-Georgia Southern

POSTGAME NOTES:

App State (6-4, 5-1 Sun Belt) is 3-for-3 in becoming bowl eligible as a full-fledged FBS member. It was 7-5 in 2014 but wasn't postseason eligible in its first year of the FCS-to-FBS switch. With Camellia Bowl victories in 2015 and 2016, it became the first team to win bowl games in each of its first two eligible seasons.

With a 38-22 record, head coach Scott Satterfield moved into a tie for fourth place on the career victories list by an App State coach. Sparky Woods had a 38-19-2 record from 1984-88. The top three coaches on the list are Jerry Moore (215-87 from 1989-2012), E.C. Duggins (57-25-3 from 1947-50, 1952-55) and Jim Brakefield (47-48-4 from 1971-79).

Appalachian State improved to 18-13-1 against its former Southern Conference/current Sun Belt Conference rival and is 3-1 in their FBS matchups. They've played every year going back to 1993.

The Mountaineers played on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU for the 28th time and are now 9-2 on ESPNU.

With one sack, defensive end Tee Sims has 9.5 this season and 16.5 through 22 games over the last two seasons. The school record for sacks in a season is 13.

Senior linebacker Devan Stringer, who is from Gainesville, Ga., made his 40th career start. He joined Lamb (46), offensive guard Colby Gossett (43) and linebacker Eric Boggs (42) as App State seniors with at least 40 career starts.

Junior safety Austin Exford recorded his first career sack.

Senior quarterback Taylor Lamb has 21 touchdown passes and four interceptions this season, increasing his career totals to 84 touchdowns with only 30 interceptions. The best touchdown-to-interception ratio over a full season by an App State starting quarterback belongs to Richie Williams, who had 20 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2005.

Lamb now has 11,158 yards of total offense, and he's one of six Sun Belt quarterbacks to reach 11,000 during his career.

Lamb's 44-yard run in the second quarter was the fourth-longest of his career. He's had runs of 78 yards (ULM in 2015), 56 yards (Campbell in 2014) and 48 yards (New Mexico State in 2016). He has rushed for 1,852 yards in his career (fourth in Sun Belt history for a quarterback) and 428 yards on 62 attempts (6.9 yards per carry) this season.

Lamb has 1,179 career pass attempts, and Armanti Edwards holds the school record with 1,180.

With three catches for 67 yards and one touchdown, senior Ike Lewis has caught 27 passes for 448 yards and seven touchdowns in the last five games. He now has 1,047 career receiving yards, including 561 this season.

Redshirt freshman Marcus Williams Jr. has started three straight games and rushed for at least 125 yards in two of them. He had 125 yards against UMass and 130 yards against Georgia Southern.

Redshirt freshman kicker Chandler Staton's 53-yard field goal was the sixth-longest in school history and the longest for an App State kicker since Mark Wright converted a record-setting kick of 57 yards in 2000. It was the first field goal of at least 50 yards by an App State kicker since Zach Matics made a pair of 51-yard attempts in 2015.
