ROCK HILL, S.C. – Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, N.C./Reagan) led all Mountaineers as Appalachian State University women’s golf finished second in the Winthrop Invitational on Sunday. The Mountaineers finished with a tournament score of 624 (+48), just 12 strokes off first-place Winthrop and had three golfers in the top 10.
Appalachian State finished up the fall slate of tournaments by shooting 316 in the first round before carding an impressive 308 in day two to finish out the event.
Craver shot back-to-back 76s to finish tied for fourth on the day, while Savanna Wood (Boone, N.C./Watauga) and Emily Stinson (Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell) finished tied with each other at ninth with 157 total points over the two days.
Joliana Elias (Jamestown, N.C./Penn-Griffin School of Arts) finished just two strokes back from them, finishing with 159 (tied-13th) after shooting an 81 and 78. Annika Winebarger (State Road, N.C./Elkin (Catawba)) finished tied-27th after carding an 86 and 78 for a tournament score of 164 as well.
Playing as individuals for the Mountaineers, Melany Chong and Patricia Thompson (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) rounded out Appalachian’s impact on the tournament. Chong finished with a tournament score of 170 after shooting 85s (tied-37th) while Thompson finished one stroke back from her at 171 (40th) after shooting an 88 in round one and an 83 in round two
Appalachian State will now move into offseason mode as they prepare for their Spring 2017 schedule. Official scheduling for the spring hasn’t been officially announced so check back to appstatesports.com for further details.
