Boone, N.C.- Antonio Harley scored his second goal of the season in the 20th minute and Appalachian never looked back defeating College of Charleston 3-0 in the first ever game at the Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
Harley's goal was set up from a corner kick by Chris Treible. The ball was punched out by the Cougars right to Harley as he knocked it past the keeper. With the assist tt was the first point of the season for Treible, but he wasn't finished.
Treible made the score 2-0 in the 75th minute when knocked home a rebound off of a Lee Rutter shot. The goal was Treible's first of his career. Rutter picked up his first collegiate assist on the goal.
The Cougars best chance to get on the board was in the 15th minute when Sean de Silva took a shot from 10 yards out from the right side but ASU keeper Collin Taylor came out to make the save.
The Mountaineers added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Treible sent a centering pass from the right side to Alvaro Yusty who knocked it past the keeper. The goal was also the first career goal for Yusty. Treible picked up his fourth point of the night with the assist.
Appalachian was outshot by the Cougars but C of C only got three shots on goal all of which were gobbled up by Taylor who earned his fourth shutout of the season.
The Mountaineers improve to 6-3-0 on the season and are back on the road Saturday at Wofford for a 7 p.m. start.
