NEW ORLEANS –– Appalachian State University men's track and field standout hurdler Elliott Graves earned Most Outstanding Performing Freshman at the Sun Belt Conference championship meet last weekend.

“Very proud of Elliott and his accomplishments as a freshman. Thrilled to see him come in his first year and do so well both for our program and the Sun Belt as a whole,” said head coach John Weaver. “I know that this will be a great motivation for Elliott moving forward as he looks towards his future competitions in a conference as strong as the Sun Belt.

Graves snatched the gold in the 400-meter hurdles crown and shaved .19 seconds off of his previous personal-best time in the event. His time last weekend of 51.29 seconds is good for fourth all-time in program history.

Earlier in the season, Graves set his personal-best in the 400-meter hurdles at the Duke Invitational with a time of 51.48 and placing second.
