Apps Nab Head-to-Head Wins Over Gardner-Webb & PC

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State picked up head-to-head wins over both Gardner-Webb and Presbyterian over the course of the last week to continue preparations for the 2017 Sun Belt Championships, which begin Sunday in Sandestin, Fla.

App State topped Presbyterian by five strokes with a team-285 on Monday at Lakeside Country Club in Laurens, S.C. The Mountaineers made an 8-over 296 stand up against Gardner-Webb on Tuesday in a head-to-head match at Deer Brook Country Club in Shelby, N.C.

Freshman Noah Schneider took top honors at Lakeside against PC with a 3-under 69, while sophomore Alex Burris carded a 1-under 71. App finished at 3-under as a team, five shots ahead of the Blue Hose. Freshman Walker Brinker came in at an even-par 72, while senior Patrick Moriarty and freshman Tripp Summerlin added matching 73s (+1).

Summerlin took low honors for App State in the win over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday with a 1-under 71. Schneider (E) and Brinker (+1) helped give App three of the top four finishers in the competition to edge the Runnin’ Bulldogs by two strokes. G-W’s Chris Jones carded a sharp 4-under 68.

App turns its attention to the 2017 Sun Belt Championships in Sandestin, Fla. Play begins on Sunday for the 54-hole championship. Seedings are expected to be announced on Wednesday.
