BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling has faced and conquered two out of three nationally ranked programs so far this season and will have one more opportunity on Tuesday, Dec. 20 when it travels to face No. 5 Missouri in Columbia at 3 p.m. ET at the Hearnes Center.

The 21st-ranked Mountaineers (7-1, 3-0 Southern Conference) will be carrying a lot of momentum into Tuesday’s tilt, having won 11 of its last 13 matches going back to last season and only losing once thus far to then-No. 9 NC State. Tuesday’s match will be the fourth nationally ranked opponent App State has faced with the team currently owning a 2-1 record against the first three (Oregon State, North Carolina, NC State).

Appalachian just came off a decisive victory against SoCon foe SIUE on Sunday, downing the Cougars 34-4. During the match, the Black and Gold got six bonus point victories and defeated two nationally ranked wrestlers to get the win.

Senior Vito Pasone is currently riding an Upset Hot-Streak after downing consecutive Top 25 wrestlers at the 125-pound weight class. Unranked himself, Pasone defeated Campbell’s No. 11 Nathan Kraisser 9-3 to help get Appalachian the win at home before most recently blasting SIUE’s No. 8 Freddie Rodriguez, 22-7.

Pasone’s performance this week led to him being named one of the “Top Six College Wrestling Performances of Week Seven” by The Open Mat.

Missouri has also had an impressive start to its season, currently 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. The Tigers got key wins against No. 6 Virginia Tech (23-19) and MAC opponent Ohio (35-7) while having their lone loss of the season come at the hands of No. 4 Ohio State (30-9) on Dec. 8.

Missouri will be hosting two dual matches on Tuesday, beginning at 12 p.m. CT/1 p.m. ET when it takes on Kent State. The Tigers will face the Mountaineers afterward at 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET.

The showdown will be broadcast on ESPN3 and available on the WatchESPN app.
