BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University baseball officially announced its class of 10 newcomers on Monday, the first under new head coach Kermit Smith. The class of 10 includes two student-athletes who will transfer to Appalachian State and eight who signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period this fall.

The class features one catcher, two infielders, two outfielders and five pitchers. Of the 10 student-athletes, seven hail from Appalachian State's backyard of North Carolina with the rest coming from Georgia, Virginia and Florida.

“This was an absolute team effort,” Smith said. “Britt Johnson and Justin Aspegren worked tirelessly on the recruiting trail to identify and cultivate relationships with the future of Appalachian State baseball. Erik Lunde’s diligence on the home front afforded us the ability to be on the road as much as we were. We could not be more excited to have these 10 young men join our family.”

Smith continued, “One of the themes that you see in this class is that we have a group of winners. All of these guys play for good programs, good coaches, and not only won games but won championships. I have to give credit to our current team. Every time we had a visit on campus, our guys were very welcoming and helped share our vision for the future. It’s a great day to be a Mountaineer.”
