WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Appalachian State University men’s track and field gathered nine top-ten finishes at the JDL College-Kickoff-Classic on Saturday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Two Mountaineer newcomers had breakout performances in their first Division I competition sporting the Black and Gold jersey. Freshman Jabari Johnson snatched first-place in the 200m (21.85), and Elliott Graves was the fastest Mountaineer hurdler running a time of 8.33 to place sixth in the 60-meter hurdles.

In the 60 meters, senior William Buckley stormed across the finish line in 6.90 to take third place out of 84 competitors. Sun Belt Champion Ryan Hastings started the season finishing in fifth place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.15. In the 4x400-meter relay, the Mountaineer quartet landed in sixth with a team effort of 3:26.02.

In the field events, Nathan Milch and Ellsworth Parham finished third and fourth in the shot put throwing 55-3.75 (16.86m) and 54-6.50 (16.62m) (PR) respectively. Lastly, in the high jump, Nick Hinton opened up the indoor season finishing the day with a clearance of 6-2.75 (1.90m) to tie for seventh.
