BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men’s tennis wrapped up a solid weekend at the ITA Carolina Regionals in Durham, N.C. on the campus of Duke.
The Mountaineers netted six victories in singles action and a pair of wins in doubles play. Scott Webster advanced all the way to the Round of 16. Webster downed all three of his opponents in straight sets, including a win over North Carolina’s Josh Peck, 6-4, 6-3. Webster fell to South Carolina’s Thomas Mayronee in a hard-fought three set match.
Trey Morris grabbed a win in the first round of the singles draw, dispatching Ben Kelley of Presbyterian, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2). In the consolation round, Milo Bargeron earned a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Campbell’s Dustin Werner while Jack Maddocks came back from a one-set deficit to defeat David Hager from Davidson.
“This was a good weekend for us, especially with Scott (Webster) making a run in singles play, “ said head coach Bob Lake. “Whether it was singles or doubles, it was good to see the student-athletes play well."
In doubles play, the duo of Bargeron and Morris tallied an impressive 7-6 (3), 6-2 victory over Clemson’s Robert Dudley/Sam Edwards to advance to the second round. Maddocks and Webster brought home a win aginst Cameron Green/Alex Steryous (Furman).
App State will have 11 days off before concluding the fall slate at the Charlotte Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 28.
