NEW ORLEANS - Appalachian State University men’s cross country was bumped down to No. 14 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional Team Rankings on Monday. Last week the men ranked at No. 12, their highest position posted in the 2016 season.

For the third straight week, the Mountaineers are the only Sun Belt Conference representatives highlighted on the list.

The top three spots have remained the same since the first week of competition with Eastern Kentucky standing in front, Virginia staying at second and  NC State prevailing at third. App State holds a spot above the Duke Blue Devils, who dropped five spots from last week’s No. 10 position.

Appalachian ran in one of the most competitive competitions in the nation over the weekend at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va. Four of the top 15 teams in the country participated in the meet including No. 1 Syracuse. Andrew Vandenberg was App State’s first finisher in the 8K running a time of 25:26.90 to place 42nd. The next Mountaineer to cross the tape was Jacob Sears in 68th with an 8K-effort of 26:20.00. Rounding out the top three Mountaineers was Evan Georges in 72nd with a time of 26:29.30.
