BOONE, N.C. -  Appalachian State University men’s tennis endured a successful opening fall weekend in Wilmington, N.C. for the Southern Exposure Tournament at UNC Wilmington.

The Apps netted 11 victories in singles play and five more in doubles competition. Stone Campbell, the newcomer that didn’t play last season due to redshirting, won his respective singles flight by going 3-0 in Flight D and upending the second seed in the bracket, Paul Hogan (Gardner-Webb), in three sets.

Overall, head coach Bob Lake was happy with the results and hopes it’ll continue moving forward. “ I was impressed with how we came out and performed in our opening tournament,” said Lake. “We got contributions from everyone and the newcomers performed really well.”

Milo Bargeron and Alex Brea teamed up to record a victory in the consolation bracket, while Scott Webster and Jack Maddocks notched a doubles triumph as well. Trey Morris and Alex Pavkovich both came away with two wins to advance to the semifinals in Flight D. It was Morris and Pavkovich's first time as doubles partners.

In singles play, Maddocks turned in a pair of victories while Webster netted a win as well. Bargeron and Morris continued their solid play with two triumphs each, and Pavkovich and Brea combined for two wins in the tournament.

The Apps won't return to the court until Oct. 7-9, when they to Charleston, S.C. for the CofC Tournament.
