Breanna Alston Named Track Athlete of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State University's Breanna Alston was named as the Southern Conference women's track Athlete of the Month for February, the league office announce on Thursday.

Alston, who helped the Mountaineers to a runner-up showing at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships, was also named as the Most Outstanding Athlete and Most Outstanding Track Performer at the league title meet.

She posted five top-three finishes at the league championships including a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.42 seconds). Alston was part of the second-place distance medley and 4x400-meter relay teams and finished third in the 60-meter dash and long jump.

In addition to her incredible performance at the SoCon Indoor Championships, Alston also broke her own Holmes Center record with a time of 24.48 seconds at the Mountaineer Open on Feb. 8.

The Mountaineers begin their indoor season next weekend when they travel to the Wake Forest Invitational from March 21-22.
