TEMPE, Ariz. – Appalachian State University softball lost its second game of the season to Western Michigan, 9-0 on Thursday night.

After losing a tough one in eight innings to the Aztecs of San Diego State, the Apps turned around and challenged the Broncos in what was the App's second game of the evening.

App State would find themselves down 1-0 going into the top of the sixth inning. The Broncos scratched across a run in the top half of the third using a double and a pair of singles with Jenny Rohn coming around to score. In the eighth, however, the floodgates opened for the Broncos offensively.

Western Michigan would push across eight runs by way of five singles, a double and a home run. The homer came off the bat of Mackenzie Ritsema.

Cynthia Gomez led the Mountaineers with two hits in three at-bats. Ashley Seering, Dani Heichen and Cara Parker all singled for the Apps in the game.

Shivaun Landeros pitched five innings, scattering five hits and striking out one. Sydney Laws pitched the sixth inning and allowed eight runs to cross the plate for the Broncos.

The Mountaineers will play again on Friday at 7:30 EST against Penn State in their third game of the Kajikawa Classic.
