SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's basketball player Maryah Sydnor was named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
The junior is an Exercise Science major and currently holds a 3.42 GPA. Last season, Sydnor was named to the 2013 academic all-conference team.
The Radford, Va. native averaged a double-double last week in women's basketball play. In the game against Samford on Saturday, Sydnor notched 24 points and six rebounds, helping her team to a 61-47 victory.
On Monday, Sydnor led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds in an overtime loss to Chattanooga, continuing to top the Southern Conference with an average of 20.2 points per game.
Sydnor also went 17-18 from the free throw line this past week, giving her an 87.7 percentage on the season and ranking her 30th in the nation in free throw percentage.
Sydnor and the Mountaineers will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday when they take on SoCon opponent Elon.
