BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men’s soccer travels back to Georgia this weekend. This time the Mountaineers will challenge the Panthers of Georgia State in the capital city of Atlanta. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The Mountaineers were on the road last Saturday against Georgia Southern and fell by a 1-0 final. App State sits in fifth place in the latest Southern Conference standings just two points behind Elon for fourth and three behind UNCG for third.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Georgia State is coming off of a huge win that saw the Panthers grab a 2-0 decision over the No. 11 Furman Paladins and move to 6-7-1 on the season. Georgia State is 5-0 against mutual opponents with the Mountaineers. The Panthers have beaten Furman, Georgia Southern, Wofford, UNCG and Lipscomb. Amiri Abraham leads the Panthers offensively with 11 points this season off of five goals and one assist. Two of those goals came in the 2-0 win over Furman. Stephen McGill is right behind with nine points off three goals and three assists. CJ Cochran has garnered most of the starting chances in net carrying a 5-7-1 record while allowing 22 goals and saving 45 shots.
- Appalachian State holds a 3-2-0 all-time advantage over Georgia State. The last time both teams played was in 2003 with the Panthers winning 3-0.
