The Mountaineers (6-5-4, 3-1-4) honored their seniors before the game. Those honored were Jordan Hatton, Jamie Lockie, Sam Neill, Sonia Sanchez, Jordan Vezina and Amy Werdine. Also honored was senior athletic trainer Hannah Daily.
For the second time in as many games this weekend the Mountaineers went into two overtimes and ended the game scoreless. Megan Roberson got the start again for App State and earned her second clean sheet of the weekend and third of the season. Roberson made three saves on the day.
Furman (11-3-2, 5-1-1) started Rose Hull in net. Hull made four saves on the day for the Paladins, including a great chance off of the foot of Lockie who rocketed a shot on goal.
The match went through its moments of the ball being dominated by both teams in the opposition’s zone. Appalachian outshot Furman by a 15-14 tally, including a four to three advantage in shots on target.
Samantha Childress led the Mountaineers in shots with four. Julia Holz and Neill followed with three shots a piece on the afternoon.
Both teams took four corner kicks and the Mountaineers edged the Paladins in fouls eight to seven. The game was about as even as you could get from both squads.
The Mountaineers will return to action on Friday when they travel to The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Kick off is set for 3 p.m.
