CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis wrapped up its biggest tournament of the fall on Sunday at the ITA Regional Championships.

A total of four Mountaineers competed at the annual event, which draws the top collegiate players in the states of North and South Carolina.

The doubles team of Clare Cox and Brianna Armellino advanced to the Round of 32 with an 8-5 victory over the Gardner-Webb team of Ronia Hutterli and Jenny Lunde. Appalachian's duo eventually fell to South Carolina's Meghan Blevins and Brigit Foland by an 8-1 score.

App State's other doubles team of Mackenzie LaSure and Gabrielle Wreder automatically moved to the Round of 32 with a first-round bye, but were unable to overcome the Duke tandem of Marianne Jodoin and Alyssa Smith in an 8-1 loss.

In singles action, Cox dropped her first-round match in the main event draw to Ani Miao of Clemson by a score of 6-1, 6-3 while Armellino fell to East Carolina's Michelle Castro (6-0, 6-4) while Wreder was ousted by Campbell's Anna Ortiz (2-6, 6-1, 6-2).

Appalachian is off next weekend before it wraps up fall play at the ECU Invitational, which runs from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Greenville, N.C.
