BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University wrestling head coach JohnMark Bentley announced that Jason Loukides will serve as a volunteer assistant for the upcoming 2013-2014 season.

“I’m really excited about adding Jason to our staff,” said coach Bentley. “He brings a lot of experience to our program as both a competitor and a coach. He has a passion for the sport that is unparalleled and his enthusiasm and excitement should benefit the student-athletes here at Appalachian State.”

Among Loukides’ duties will be organizing and running the AppStateRTC (Regional Training Center) program. This past summer, the AppStateRTC produced two World Team Trials qualifiers, including assistant coach Daren Burns, who captured third to earn a spot on the U.S. World Team. In addition, the Regional Training Center produced several other top finishers at various events this year - for a complete recap, click HERE.

“Jason will also provide a little more structure and stability to our regional training center, which will allow athletes like Austin Trotman to pursue his dream of making a U.S. Olympic Team,” said Bentley.

Loukides comes to App State after serving as the head coach of the UNCG wrestling program for five years before the program was discontinued in 2011. During his time at UNCG he captured a SoCon Tournament Championship in 2010, which marked the first in school history. Loukides also sent four wrestlers to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which was the most the program had sent to nationals since 2006.
