SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State University women’s cross country was picked to finish fourth in the Southern Conference preseason poll for the 2013 season.

Elon was projected to finish first in the conference for the second year in a row, tallying 93 points.  They were followed by Furman and Samford, earning 86 and 79 points respectively.  Appalachian State earned fourth place in the rankings with 76 points. The remaining teams in the poll included UNCG (61), Davidson (58), Western Carolina (48), Chattanooga (40), Wofford (28), Georgia Southern (20), and The Citadel (16).

The defending SoCon champions will begin their season Friday, Aug. 30 in Boone for the Covered Bridge Open. The SoCon championship will be held in Birmingham, Ala. on Nov. 2.
