SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State University men’s and cross country was picked to finish fourth in the Southern Conference preseason poll for the 2013 season.

Furman and UNCG topped the men’s preseason poll, both receiving 73 points, followed by Chattanooga with 65 points.  Appalachian State clinched the fourth place spot by tallying 64 points. Davidson (48), Samford (42), Western Carolina (31), Elon (25), The Citadel (19), and Wofford (10) rounded out the remaining spots in the poll for the men.

The defending SoCon champions will begin their season Friday, Aug. 30 in Boone for the Covered Bridge Open. The SoCon championship will be held in Birmingham, Ala. on Nov. 2.
