MANHEIM, Pa. – Appalachian State University wrestling has been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division I all-Academic Top 30 Teams, while redshirt sophomore Dominic Parisi has been named to the NWCA Division I all-Academic Team, announced by the NWCA on Monday.
Appalachian finished 26th in the top 30 schools with a 3.03 team GPA and joined other Southern Conference schools, The Citadel (12th), Davidson (19th) and Gardner-Webb on the prestigious list. Harvard took the top spot with a team GPA of 3.418.
Parisi, a recreation, park, tourism management major, made the all-academic team and was listed with 81 other wrestlers from across the country to be named to the honor. Parisi took the opening day of the NCAA Championships by storm, knocking off two seeded opponents to advance to the round of 12 at 125 pounds.
The Concord, N.C. native headlined a trio of SoCon participants who also made the team, as Chattanooga’s Dean Pavlon and The Citadel’s Matt Frisch each were named to the team. Both Pavlon and Frisch were NCAA qualifiers.
