BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University University women's tennis will begin it's postseason campaign for a Southern Conference Tournament title when it plays its first match in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament in Elon, N.C.

The Mountaineers (14-8, 6-4 SoCon), who earned a first-round bye as the No. 5 seed in the field of 11 teams, will take on No. 4 UNCG on Friday, April 19 at 9 a.m.

College of Charleston, which won the SoCon regular-season title, enters play as the No. 1 overall seed and will take on the winner of No. 8 Samford and No. 9 Davidson, while Elon, which earned the No. 2 seed following a three-way tie with Furman and UNCG, will face either No. 7 Georgia Southern or No. 10 Wofford.

As the No. 3 seed, Furman, who defeated fourth-ranked UNCG, is slated to take on No. 6 Chattanooga or No. 11 Western Carolina.

Senior Ellie Linsell leads the Mountaineers from the No. 1 position, while teammate Clare Cox posted seven conference wins in the No. 2 slot. Brianna Armellino rounds out the top half of  Appalachian's lineup at No. 3.

Senior veteran Jennifer Ansari holds the No. 4 position, while Jessica Thaggard picked up seven league wins at No. 5. Gabriela Celi completes the singles lineup, earning an 8-1 SoCon mark in the sixth position.

Appalachian's doubles lineup includes No. 1 pair Linsell and Mackenzie LaSure, along with the No. 2 tandem of Ansari and Cox.

Appalachian is 0-1 against quarterfinal opponent UNCG since 1998, when the tournament changed from an individual to a team format, and this year's team looks to make Appalachian's first semifinal appearance since 2006.
