BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State men’s tennis will close out it's regular season home competition when it hosts non-conference opponent Gardner-Webb for Senior Day on Friday, April 12. Play is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at ASU Tennis Courts.

The Mountaineers, whose overall record fell to 4-14 and 2-7 in the Southern Conference, last met instate, SoCon foe Elon on April 10, dropping a 6-1 decision at home.

On the doubles side, Elon swept all three matches to claim the early point.

In singles play, the Phoenix took five slots to clinch the team victory. Steve Karendal recorded Appalachian's lone point with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Robert Lindgren at No 2.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (9-8, 3-4 Big South) fell in just their third home loss to South Carolina State on April 10.

At No. 2 doubles, GWU's Adam Knutsson-Sunblad and Nikita Zverkov combined for their third straight doubles win by an 8-4 score, but South Carolina State clinched the doubles point by way of victories at Nos. 1 and 3.

In singles action, No. 4 Ernest Alberch captured his fifth consecutive singles win, 6-0, 6-3, to even the match at 1-1.

Senior Knutsson-Sundblad defeated Thomas Bizon at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0, edging Gardner-Webb to a 2-1 lead. South Carolina State evened the match, however, with a win at No. 3 and pulled ahead after a No. 2 victory.

The Bulldogs were unable to overcome South Carolina State, who put away the remaining No. 5 and No. 6 matches to finalize a 4-2 victory.

The Mountaineers wrap up their regular season schedule against Wofford on Saturday at 1 p.m.
