BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field will compete in its first home meet of the season when it hosts East Carolina and Western Carolina in the annual Beaches vs. Mountains Meet on Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

UNC Wilmington, which was scheduled to compete in the event alongside ECU for the Beaches, will not attend, thereby eliminating the team scoring system that was to determine the winners on each side.

Instead, athletes from all three schools will compete to grab individual titles at the event, which the Beaches won by a score of 353-321 a year ago when the meet was held in Wilmington.

Appalachian finished the event with several strong performances, including two second-place finishes from Breanna Alston, who took second in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

Saturday's events get underway at 12:30 p.m. with the final event of the day scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start time. Admission to Saturday's meet is FREE for all fans.

In addition to the home meet, the Mountaineers will send three athletes to the Raleigh Relays at NC State this weekend as Amanda Hamilton, Meaghan McCauley and Sarah Williamson will run in the 10,000-meter run.
