BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State University men's golf leaves the High Country for the sunshine of Myrtle Beach, S.C., as the Mountaineers host the three-day Bash at the Beach at The Surf Golf and Beach Club beginning on Sunday, March 10.

The Mountaineers welcome 12 other teams to the beach for their opening team tournament, after sending four participants to the Irish Creek Invitational in late February.

Three Mountaineers played in all 14 rounds during the fall season, as senior Josh Nichols paced the trio with a 73.29 stroke average. Following Nichols was junior Casey Komline (73.50) and senior Jay Brown (76.57). Graduate student Daniel Walsh missed the opening Raines Development Group Intercollegiate, but bounced back with a 75.91 stroke average in 11 rounds.

This is the third-straight season the Apps will open their spring team schedule at The Surf Golf and Beach Club with their best finish coming in 2011, as App State finished 8th in a 12-team field.

Last season, the Mountaineers finished tied for 11th place out of 15 teams. Junior John Michael Cole paced the team with a 28th-place finish.

After its trip to the beach, Appalachian continues down south to the George Mason University Invitational in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. On Saturday, March 16. The two-day tournament will be held at Mission Inn Golf Course.
