BOONE, N.C. - Despite the packed schedules of student-athletes, Appalachian State University women's basketball set aside time this Saturday to volunteer with Boone's charitable organization, Santa's Toy Box.

The Mountaineers spent the afternoon helping to manage the temporary "shop" set up by Santa's Toy Box, and assist Christmas shoppers, who are less fortunate, make the holidays brighter for their families. 

This year's Santa's Toy Box returns to 687 George Wilson Road in Boone. The organization first began in 1986 by way of the Men's Group at Deerfield Methodist Church, and, with time, has evolved into a community project.

In 2011, Santa's Toy Box helped 928 less fortunate children in Watauga County have a merry Christmas. The organization has surved over the years thanks to the efforts of volunteers and donations received from indidviduals, businesses, and churches.
