App State Opens SBC Play with A-State, Little Rock

Appalachian State University volleyball will seek to end a nine-game losing streak when it opens Sun Belt Conference play beginning on Friday against defending champion Arkansas State.

The Mountaineers will also host Little Rock on Sunday. Both matches this weekend will be held in Varsity Gym

FRESHMEN FORTITUDE
Freshman Emma Longley is currently 10th in the nation in kills per set (4.69) and also seventh nationally in total kills (244). She leads the Sun Belt in both categories.

Amanda Krahl is now leading the squad with 9.87 assists per set this season, which now leads teammate Ashlyn Brown's 9.44 kills per set.

SCOUTING THE RED WOLVES
Arkansas State enters Friday's Sun Belt Conference opener with an 8-6 overall mark this season including wins against NC State, Saint Louis and Indiana.

The Red Wolves currently boast three student-athletes averaging over 3.00 kills per set (Drew Jones - 4.00, Carlisa May - 3.92, Brentlee Weaver - 3.00).

Mallory Warrington has helped a dominant Red Wolves' offense by tallying 12.04 assists per set and posting 626 total assists thus far. Defensively, Markie Shaedig has totaled 274 digs and has averaged 5.27 digs per set to lead the team.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS
Little Rock will enter Sunday's match after opening their conference season at Coastal Carolina on Friday. The Trojans are currently 4-9 this season.

Veronica Marin currently leads the Trojans with 109 total kills and has averaged a team-high 2.53 kills per set. Carolee Dillard has also posted over 2.00 kills per set (2.17) and has tallied 102 total kills this season.

Taylor Lindberg leads the offense with 326 assists, including 7.76 assists per set. Defensively, the Trojans have two student-athletes boast over 100 digs this season. Sydnee Martin leads with 142 digs and 3.02 digs per set, while Kelsey Leech has 100 digs this season and has collected 2.17 digs per set.
