NEW ORLEANS – For the seventh time during her illustrious career, Appalachian State University volleyball's Paige Brown was named Sun Belt Conference Setter of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
"Paige had a strong opening weekend for us and the numbers that she put up (12.5 assists/set, 42% assist percentage) were a great start to the season for her," said head coach Matt Ginipro. "She put our attackers in positions to score for the majority of the weekend and I'm sure she will keep making that a priority throughout the season."
Over the weekend, the 2015 Preseason Setter of the Year and winner of the 2014 end of the year honor in the Sun Belt managed 125 total assists in three matches at the Big Orange Bash in Clemson, S.C. Brown tallied 31 assists in a sweep of Charleston Southern last Friday.
On Saturday, Brown enjoyed a season-high 52 assists in a loss to UNC Wilmington. In the nightcap, Brown recorded 42 assists in the Mountaineers' straight-set sweep of ACC foe Clemson – the program's first win over the Tigers since 2000 and just the second victory against Clemson all-time.
With 125 assists this weekend, Brown moves into sole possession of sixth all-time in program history with 3,168 career assists.
The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 1 when they host Gardner-Webb for their home opener. The match is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. from the Holmes Center.
