INDIANAPOLIS - Appalachian State University women's track and field will send Brianna Tate and Tristin Van Ord to the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Friday.
Tate will compete in the shot put. She was named all-Sun Belt after her performance at the conference meet in the hammer throw. Tate placed third in the hammer throw and currently ranks third all-time in Appalachian history for her throw of 177-5.
She is second all-time in the shot put, recording a distance of 51-3.75 this season. This will be her second trip to the preliminary championships.
Van Ord has qualified for the 10,000 meter run. She was named all-conference in the 5,000 meter run and 10,000 meter run after earning two first-place finishes at the 2015 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships two weeks ago.
Van Ord currently holds the Appalachian State school record in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:23.08 and ranks fourth all-time in App State history in the 5,000m run with a time of 16:45.85. This will be her first trip to the NCAA prelims.
The meet will take place in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 28-30 and will be hosted by University of North Florida.
