Three Mountaineers Earn All-Sun Belt Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Appalachian State University volleyball landed three players on the All-Sun Belt teams, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Paige Brown highlighted the awards by being named Sun Belt Setter of the Year, while also earning first-team All-Conference honors. Emily Corrigan was also named first-team All-Sun Belt, while Lauren Gray was named second-team All-Sun Belt.

Brown was the Sun Belt's assist leader throughout the entire season, averaging 11.73 assists per set. She also led the country in assists for four consecutive weeks between the weeks of September 14 and October 5. Brown ended the season, raking fifth in the nation in assists per set. She has amassed 1,279 total assists this season and is on track to rank tenth for total assists in a season in the Appalachian record books.

As a junior, Brown is already seventh in the record books for career assists with 3,019. Brown's best performances of the season came against UL Monroe (10/19) where she tallied 61 assists and at Arkansas State (10/24) where she recorded 60. Brown has also averaged 2.43 digs per set this season and recorded 27 blocks. She has been named Sun Bet Setter of the Week six times this season.

Corrigan has had an outstanding junior season, leading the Sun Belt in kills per set for the majority of the season with 4.39. Corrigan's best national ranking was during the week of September 21 when she ranked fourth in the nation in kills per set. She has been ranked fifth and sixth in the country for kills until just two weeks ago. Corrigan totaled 479 kills this season for a ninth-place ranking in the Appalachian record books for kills in a season.

One of Corrigan's best performances of the season came in the win over a ranked Louisville team where she tallied 27 kills and ten digs. She also ranks second on the team in digs per set, averaging .272 per set this season. She was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week three times this year.

Gray has remained Appalachian's most consistent hitter during her senior season as she has maintained a .315 hitting percentage for a fifth-place ranking in the Sun Belt. Gray's speed has led her to be one of the Sun Belt's best middle blockers, backed up by her average of 2.93 kills per set.

Gray has consistently given Appalachian a high number of kills combined with a low number of errors with one of her best performances coming in the win over Louisville (9/6). Gray recorded 18 kills and committed just three errors for a .517 hitting percentage that day. At the end of the season Gray recorded a new career-high of 20 kills against UL Monroe, while tallying just three errors for a .362 hitting percentage. Gray also leads the team in blocks, totaling 78 this season.

The Mountaineers will face UT Arlington on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the first-round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
