Eaves Named Sun Belt Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS — After helping lead Appalachian State University men's basketball to two-straight wins, junior guard Frank Eaves has been named as the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Eaves averaged 21.3 points over three games last week and twice set a career-high in scoring. He hit the 20-point mark for the first time in a loss to Furman last Wednesday and followed that up with a 19-point effort in a 65-63 win at Virginia Tech on Saturday.

His game-winning shot with one second left against the Hokies gave Appalachian its first win over an Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for the first time since 2006, snapped a 10-game losing streak to Division I non-conference opponents and stopped a six-game skid against Virginia Tech.

Eaves followed that up by exploding for 25 points in Monday's home win against Hampton (82-74). He finished 6-of-13 from the floor against the Pirates and was an incredible 12-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Mountaineers' win over Hampton marked the first time since 2009 that the Apps defeated back-to-back Division I non-conference foes. He also added five rebounds, five steals and three assists during the week.

During the three-game stretch, he shot an impressive 84.4 percent (27-of-32) from the charity stripe and currently ranks seventh in the Sun Belt in scoring (17.5 ppg) and 12th in free-throw percentage (85.3 percent).

Eaves' honor is the first of his three-year career and is the first conference Player of the Week award for a Mountaineer since Jay Canty was named as the Southern Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 4, 2012.

Appalachian State returns to action at Jacksonville on Thursday, Dec. 4. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. tipoff from Veterans Memorial Arena.
