Box Score LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Appalachian State University volleyball fell to first-place Sun Belt team UALR on Saturday night, featuring sets with scores of 16-25, 12-25 and 14-25.
The Mountaineers (17-6, 7-6 SBC) were unable to get the better of the Trojans (19-4, 13-0 SBC), quickly falling in just three sets.
The first set began with Appalachian tying the score at four, but UALR went on 5-0 run to lead 9-4. From there the Trojans would continue to find points, never letting the Mountaineers within more than six points.
Despite a kill from Emily Corrigan at the end of the set, UALR took the first, 25-16 to take a 1-0 lead.
The second set began close as each team took several leads. The Apps took a 7-6 lead off a Trojan error, but UALR would suddenly take control, scoring eight-straight points to take a commanding 14-7 lead.
The Mountaineers were unable to catch up as the Trojans scored 11 of the last 15 points to take the second set, 25-12.
The third set would not begin well for App State as the Trojans scored the first seven points of the set. The Mountaineers would attempt to close the lead, finding points from Corrigan, Jess Keller, Hailey Kerr and Lauren Gray, but it would not be enough as UALR easily took the third, 25-14 and won the match 3-0.
Corrigan led the way with seven kills, a season-low for her, while also finding a team-high six digs. Paige Brown had 20 assists in the loss.
Edina Begic led the Trojans with 14 kills, whle Rino Capri had 15 digs.
UALR hit .346 in the match, holding the Mountaineers to just a .010 hitting percentage. App State had four blocks to UALR's 12.
The Mountaineers return to action for a Sunday match against UT Arlington next weekend in Boone.
