BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University volleyball will host Presbyterian on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Holmes Center.
The Mountaineers (7-0) will look to continue their undefeated season as they take on the Blue Hose (3-4) in their first non-tournament home match. The Mountaineer's successful start to the season helped them to receive 13 votes for the AVCA Coaches Top-25 poll this week, ranking 32nd.
A Look at the Mountaineers
• Appalachian had a fantastic week, going 4-0 with wins over Gardner-Webb, Cincinnati, Tennessee State and Louisville.
• The Mountaineer's 7-0 record is the best start to a season Appalachian has ever had.
• The Mountaineers upset no. 24 Louisville in four sets on the Cardinal's home court on Saturday, helping them to win the Louisville Active Ankle Challenge and notch their second tournament title so far this season.
• This is the first time that App State has beaten a ranked opponent.
• Emily Corrigan was named the tournament MVP, while Lauren Gray and Paige Brown were also named to the all-tournament team.
• Corrigan averaged 5.20 kills this past week, notching 27 in the win against Cincinnati and 20 against Louisville.
• Gray had a huge offensive week as well, averaging 4.18 kills per set in the Louisville tournament, while only committing eight errors for a .437 hitting percentage.
• Gray recorded a new career high of 18 kills against Louisville.
• Brown once again proved to be a huge part of the Appalachian offense as she averaged 11.93 assists last week, recording 54 against Louisville.
Leading the Sun Belt
• The Mountaineers will face the Blue Hose on Tuesday after three wins at Louisville this past weekend to help them move up in many of the Sun Belt standings.
• Corrigan currently leads the Sun Belt in kills per set, averaging 5.08 per set in the past seven matches.
• Brown is ranked first in the league in assists with an average of 12.25 per set.
• Gray is currently ranked third in the league in hitting percentage, averaging a mark of .431 over the past seven matches.
• Gray is also ranked fifth in kills per set, averaging 3.54 this season.
• Olivia Reed holds a third-place ranking in the conference for service aces, averaging .47 per set.
• Meghan Mahoney is seventh in the conference in digs per set, averaging 3.67.
• The Mountaineers lead the Sun Belt in assists per set as a team (13.96) and kills per set (14.75).
• The team is second in hitting percentage (.272) and third in opponent hitting percentage (.153).
• The Mountaineers rank fourth in digs per set (15.33) and blocks per set (1.85).
Scouting the Blue Hose
• Presbyterian travels to App after going 3-1 this past weekend at the Deacon Invitational.
• The Blue Hose found wins over North Carolina Central, Wofford and Davidson and fell to Wake Forest in four sets.
• Rachel Hall leads the team on offense with an average of 3.60 kills per set.
• Setter Ashtin Frank is averaging 9.36 assists per set and libero Mary Trimpe has record 4.32 digs per set.
• Frank ranks seventh in the Big South conference in service aces with 0.32 per set.
• Kelly Berryman is fifth in the league in blocks per set, averaging 1.00 per set.
• Presbyterian has found success in blocks and service aces this season averaging 1.80 blocks per set and 1.16 service aces per set.
• The Blue Hose have hit just .156 on the season while holding opponents to a .200 hitting percentage.
