Cox Honored by SoCon for Second-Straight Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — For the second week in a row, Appalachian State University running back Marcus Cox has been honored as the Southern Conference Freshman of the Week, the SoCon office announced Monday morning.

Cox accounted for 180 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 27-24 loss to Charleston Southern. One week after becoming the first player in Appalachian State history with 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in a game during a 31-21 victory at Elon, Cox rushed 17 times for 89 yards and caught four passes for 91 yards against CSU.

The true freshman also scored three touchdowns for the second-straight week, finding paydirt on runs of 14 and two yards and on a 65-yard reception. His six touchdowns over the past two weeks give him a SoCon-high eight in his four-game collegiate career.

Cox is the first Mountaineer to earn consecutive SoCon Freshman-of-the-Week awards since Armanti Edwards received the honor three-straight weeks from Sept. 23-Oct. 7, 2006.

Cox and the Mountaineers (1-3, 1-0 SoCon) look to moved to 2-0 in conference play this Saturday when they travel to The Citadel (1-4, 1-1 SoCon). Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C.
