STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore After a neck-and-neck first half of the game, Appalachian State University baseball fell 6-4 in the series finale to Georgia Southern at Clements Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers (13-23, 4-11 Sun Belt) got off to a quick start, going up 4-2 in the third inning over the Eagles (23-13, 9-6 Sun Belt) but were unable to hang on as GS scored four runs over the next two innings to secure the win.
Leading the way offensively for Appalachian was Matt Vernon and Conner Leonard. Vernon finished 2-for-5 on the day while Leonard continued his hitting streak, going 2-for-4 overall with three RBI. Leonard also hit his sixth home run of the season and his third double on the year.
On the mound for App State was Luke Watts. Watts went 3.2 innings before he was relieved by Sean Mason and Matt Brill.
The Mountaineers will end their five-game road trip as they travel to Radford for their second meeting of the year. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
