BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State (+38) finished with a two-day total of 614 to take fifth in an 11-team field at the 2017 Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, which wrapped up on Monday at Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club.
The Mountaineers shot a team-308 to finish five shots behind Elon (+33), which took fourth. Gardner-Webb's team-295 helped the Runnin' Bulldogs claim the team title by two strokes over Bethune-Cookman (+25). USC Upstate (+32), which tied G-W for the lowest round of the day, jumped to third.
Gardner-Webb's Taylor Dodson claimed medalist honors with a tournament-low 69 (-3) in the final round to finish at 1-under, one shot ahead of Western Carolina's Natalia Villavicencio. Elon's Kelsey Badmaev (+1) took third.
Senior Emily Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) closed with a second consecutive 75 (+3) to notch a Top 10 by tying for eighth at +6. Stinson was third in the field in par-5 scoring playing them collectively at 3-under.
Fellow seniors Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, N.C.) tied for 14th following a final-round 78 (+6). She finished the week at 8-over.
Junior Savanna Wood (Boone, N.C.) finished strongly with a 76 (+4) on Tuesday and tied for 28th.
Sophomore Joliana Elias (Jamestown, N.C.) followed her opening round 78 with a 79 on Tuesday to finish 33rd.
Freshman Melany Chong (Mississauga, Canada) carded an 85 on Tuesday and finished tied for 49th.
Patricia Thompson (Granite Falls, N.C.) played solidly in her closing round with a 79 (+7), while junior Annika Winebarger (State Road, N.C.) closed with an 88.
App State's attention now turns to the 2017 Sun Belt Championships, played April 17-19 in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
