STATESBORO, Ga. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (4-16) fell to a red-hot South Alabama team, 7-0, on Sunday morning at the Wallis Tennis Center in Statesboro.
Much like Saturday, the Mountaineers ran into a team that has been on a hot streak, as the Jaguars (15-4) have won seven-straight matches.
Gabrielle Wreder and Megan Mullen fell to Laura Valkova/Patricia Martins as the No. 1 doubles tandem, 6-1, before Heidi Swope and McKayla Zupan suffered a 6-2 setback to Monica Mitta/Alexandria Stiteler, 6-2.
Mullen tried to tie up the match in singles competition, but she was toppled by her counterpart as the No. 6 in the lineup, 6-1, 6-0. Melissa Machado was dealt a 6-3, 6-0 defeat to Martins, and Taylor Bygrave was defeated by Laura Matuskova, 6-1, 6-0.
Rebecca Morse fell to Laura Valkova 6-1, 6-1, while Swope suffered a 6-1, 6-3, decision to Stiteler. Wreder tried to end the Mountaineers' day on a high note, but she would fall in straight sets to Valkova.
App will return to the court next weekend in Mobile, Ala., for another pair of Sun Belt matches. App State faces Georgia State next Saturday before facing archrival Georgia Southern on Sunday.
