DAYTONA, FLA. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (8-6) continued the successful Daytona road trip with a 6-1 triumph over Eastern Kentucky (9-5) on Tuesday morning.
The Apps snapped a hot EKU squad's four-match win streak. App is 5-1 over its last six matches after starting 3-5 in the first eight matches of the season.
“This was a great win for us against an excellent EKU team,” said head coach Bob Lake. Once we picked up the doubles point, I think that momentum just carried over into singles play and the guys didn't look back. This has been a great trip so far, and we want to finish it off playing the best we can.”
Appalachian sprinted off to a fast start capturing the doubles point winning two of three matches. Jack Maddocksand Trey Morris notched their sixth-straight win and improved to 6-0 as partners with a 6-1 win over Sebastian Mueller and Colin Hart.
Scott Webster and Milo Bargeron improved to 5-1 in doubles play with the clinching point, toppling Ramon van Flymen/Diego Asis, 6-4.
Leading 1-0 going into singles action, Bargeron led off with a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 victory over Oasis as the No. 4 in the lineup. Morris gave App the 3-0 edge with his 6-3, 6-1 victory against Parth Aggarwal as the No. 3 on the roster. Webster clinched the match for the Apps with his sixth-straight win over Van Flymen, 6-2, 6-3.
Alex Brea fell to Romain Stoffels as the No. 6 in the lineup in the tightly-contested match, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. In the last two matches of the day, App got back on track when Maddocks defeated Mueller in three sets, 7-6, 5-7, 10-6. Alex Pavkovich needed a come-from-behind win in three sets to finish the day, defeating Nicolas Castaldo, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, for his fifth win of the season.
App will look to finish the 12-match road trip with a 7-5 mark tomorrow against Oral Roberts at 9 a.m.
