Men's Tennis Rolls to 6-1 Win at NC Central

DURHAM, N.C.  - Appalachian State University men's tennis (6-5) rolled to a 6-1 road win against North Carolina Central (2-9) in Durham, N.C. on Thursday afternoon.

Appalachian brought home the doubles point with two of three doubles matches before grabbing five of six singles points. The Mountaineers are above .500 while it's the second three-match win streak of the season.

“I'm really proud of the guys for how they performed with the long layoff between matches,” said head coach Bob Lake. “We didn't skip a beat from our last match, and it was great to get back above .500. As the road trip continues, we've improved, and it's fun to see that steady improvement as the season goes along.”

The No. 2 duo on the day in Jack Maddocks and Trey Morris moved to 3-0 as a duo defeating Davide Callegari and Theo Kontopoulos, 6-1. App clinched the doubles point thanks to Alex Brea  and Alex Pavkovich claiming a 6-1 triumph over Sebastian Bromley and Brooks Campbell to give App the 1-0 lead.

Scott Webster and Milo Bargeron went in as the top tandem in the lineup but fell to Gabriel Cucalon and Maksym Konovalov.

Leading 1-0 going into singles, Morris downed his opponent as the No. 3 with a straight-set 6-2, 6-0 win against Konovalov, improving to 7-3 this year. Following Morris' win was Bargeron's 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win over Campbell in the four slot to put App one point away from the win.

Clinching the match for Appalachian was Maddocks, who topped Callegari 6-1, 7-5. The senior nabbed his seventh win of the season in singles play as well. Webster joins Morris and Maddocks with a team-high seven wins after downing his counterpart, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), as the No. 1 in the lineup.

Pavkovich kept the exceptional play going with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) come-from-behind win over Pablo Juez Torres for his fourth singles win of the year.  Brea ended the Apps' day with a very hard-fought setback to Bromley after he fell down a set and forced a tiebreaker, 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).

App will look for a season-long four-match win streak at Mercer on Saturday. First serve is set for 11 a.m. in Macon, Ga.
