BOONE, N.C. –– Appalachian State University men's basketball is poised to make a run in their first-ever trip to the Sun Belt Conference tournament. At the conclusion of league games on March 4, the Mountaineers earned clinched the No. 11 seed after defeating Coastal Carolina, 77-73.
As the 11th seed, the Mountaineers will face-off with the sixth-seeded Troy Trojans on Wednesday, March 8 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Both teams met just once during the regular season and Troy pulled away for a 76-66 victory.
Wednesday's contest can be heard live locally on WATA 1450 AM in Boone and Blowing Rock. It will also be carried on Appalachian State's flagship station, WKBC 97.3 FM, as well as, WZGV 730 AM, WCOG 1320 AM, and online/worldwide on appstatesports.com and via the TuneIn app.
The game is also available on ESPN3 via the WatchESPN app.
The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to play Georgia Southern on Friday, March 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Tickets to the 2017 Sun Belt Conference basketball tournament in New Orleans are on sale now. The tournament will take place March 7-12 and is held at Lakefront Arena.
Tournament booklets are available for $120 and are good for all men's and women's games. Single session tickets (ages 13 and up) are available for $15, while tickets for children ages 3-12 are listed at $5 and includes a free drink and hot dog.
Fans who wish to sit closer to the action can purchase a VIP ticket book which includes a ticket to each men's and women's game and access to a hospitality area which includes food and beverages throughout the tournament. The VIP tickets are $275 and can be purchased by contacting John Barranco at barranco@sunbeltsports.org.
Any Sun Belt students with a valid school ID are admitted for free.
