BLUFFTON, S.C. – Junior Savanna Wood aced the par-3 fifth hole at Berkeley Hall to highlight App's opening round at the head-to-head Dayton Invitational in Bluffton, S.C. on Saturday. Wood used a seven-iron into the wind for the ace and went on to fire an 80 on the afternoon (+8).
Appalachian State leads Dayton by two strokes in the head-to-head matchup just off Hilton Head Island to open the spring season. App sits at 319 (+21) after 18 holes and Dayton at 321. The teams will play 18 holes again on Sunday
Wood's ace was the highlight of the round for the Apps, coming in her 80 (+8). Hannah Craver was App State's low golfer with a 77 (+5), followed by an 80 (+8) from Wood and Jo Elias. Emily Stinson added an 82 (+10 and Patricia Thompson an 87.
Melany Chong 79 (+7) played well as an individual and Annika Winebarger has an 85 in her round.
Dayton's scores included a 78 (+6) from Emily Connors, 80 from Jenna DiPaulo, and an 81 by Emma Meyer.
