LAKE MARY, Fla. – Appalachian State pieced together a team 301 (+13) in the final round to finish eighth overall at the 2017 Frontier Secure Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
App State (+36) finished two shots behind host Stetson in the team standings, just ahead of Ohio and Embry-Riddle (Fla.). Western Carolina (-8) won the event, finishing seven strokes ahead of Jacksonville State (Ala.) which was 1-under for the week.
Freshman Tripp Summerlin (Summerfield, N.C.) was the Mountaineers' top finisher taking 15th. Summerlin finished at 5-over for the tournament following a 77 (+6) in Tuesday's final round, which included a team-high three birdies.
Senior Patrick Moriarty (Rockville, Md.) finished 30th, climbing one spot in the final round. Moriarty opened with a 33 (-2) on the front nine and was bogey-free until a double on the 12th. He finished at 10-over for the event and had a 74 (+3) on Tuesday.
Sophomore Alex Burris (+13) also pieced together a 74 (+3) with a pair of birdies on his opening nine. Burris finished tied for 38th with teammate Noah Schneider (+13). Schneider closed with a 78 (+7) on Tuesday.
Freshman Walker Brinker (Sanford, N.C.) was 51st with a 76 (+4) in the final round. He was even at the turn with back-to-back birdies on No. 8 and No. 9. Sophomore Thomas Hodges (Waxhaw, N.C.) closed with an 80.
App hosts The Bash at the Beach in two weeks in Myrtle Beach. The 54-hole event runs March 13-14 at the Surf Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
