BOONE, N.C. –– Ronshad Shabazz's 20 points and Isaac Johnson's 10 rebounds highlighted Appalachian State University men's basketball's 75-64 loss to ULM on Saturday afternoon inside the Holmes Center.
Shabazz led the Mountaineers (8-19, 3-13 Sun Belt) with a team-high 20 points on 6-for-16 shooting from the field. Johnson finished 3-for-5 with six points. Four of his 10 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
The Black and Gold took a 30-22 lead into halftime over the Warhawks (8-20, 2-13 Sun Belt). The Apps led by as many as 14 points in the opening half with 5:48 to go - holding to a 27-13 advantage. ULM closed the half on a 9-3 run.
To begin the second half, the Mountaineers would keep the Warhawks at a distance and maintained a eight-point advantage following a Patrick Good 3-pointer to give App State a 41-33 lead with 13:44 to play.
Following that three from Good, the Warhawks would subsequently go on a 10-1 run to take a 43-42 lead with 11:40 left in regulation. A Shabazz three would knot the score again at 45-45, but ULM, despite multiple Mountaineer attempts, would fend off App State on numerous comeback attempts.
The Warhawks, leading 60-58 after two free throws from Good, would construct a 15-6 run to end the game.
Travis Munnings led the Warhawks with 21 points and eight rebounds. Nick Coppola finished with 16 and Sam McDaniel notched 14.
Notes: App State fell to 1-4 all-time against ULM … Ronshad Shabazz notched his sixth 20-point game of the season and 13th of his career … it also marked Shabazz's 24th double-digit scoring game of the year and 42nd of his career … Isaac Johnson led the team in rebounding for the 11th time and grabbed at least nine rebounds for the seventh time in 11 games … Johnson's 10 rebounds marked his fourth double-digit rebounding effort of the season.
