Men's Tennis Hands Wofford First Home Loss

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (4-5) dealt Wofford (8-4) a 6-1 loss in Spartanburg at the Reeves Tennis Center on Saturday.

App hands Wofford its first home loss of the season and snaps the Terriers' four-match win streak. App State captured two of three doubles matches and five of six singles points.

The Mountaineers also snap their four-match skid in the process.

"This was a great win for us on the road against a very good Wofford team,” said head coach Bob Lake. “Capturing the doubles point was key for us in getting off to a good start, and we certainly carried that momentum into singles. This is the type of win that can give us confidence moving forward into tomorrow (vs. Winthrop). I'm proud of the way we performed today on the road.”

Trey Morris  and Jack Maddocks picked up the first doubles win as the No. 2 pairing in the lineup with a 6-1 triumph over Andrew Graham/Trevor Gotkowski. Clinching the doubles portion of the match was Scott Webster and Milo Bargeron, as they improved to 2-0 as partners toppling Haris Poric/Julian Chousa (6-4).

All five of App's singles victories went to straight sets, while Webster gave App the 2-0 lead thanks to a 6-2, 6-2, win over Lucas Cerbelli. Wofford drew to within a point after Alex Brea valiantly fell to Peter Cooms in the six slot.

However, the Apps took the next four singles matches, as Maddocks' 7-6, 6-2 win over Parks Schoen at the two spot and Bargeron's 6-1, 6-4 victory over Chousa clinched the win for App.

Morris continued his solid day with a straight set, 6-3, 6-3, win over Jack Thomas before Alex Pavkovich ended the day with a 6-4, 6-2 notch under his belt over Kyle Barr.

App will look to finish the weekend 2-0 at 12 p.m. tomorrow against Winthrop.
