BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis (3-8) fell down early after doubles, but couldn't come back in a narrow 4-3 setback to Lipscomb (2-7) on Friday at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.
Appalachian would fall in doubles play to the Bison because of a default. It was a valient effort by the Apps in singles play where three of the six matches went into three sets.
Heidi Swope was in the No. 1 slot for the Mountaineers for the fourth time this season, but fell to Viktoriya Dzyuba, 6-1, 6-1. No. 2 featured sophomore Rebecca Morse outlasted Hannah Gamage in a back-and-forth match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
In the No. 3 slot, Gabrielle Wreder was defeated by Madeleine Brooks, 6-2, 6-0.
The No. 4 singles match went into a tiebreak in the third set when Melissa Machado and Denise Buberl were in a nip-and-tuck match. However, Machado fell valiantly, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 (7-5).
Taylor Bygrave won her fifth match in row in singles when she notched an impressive 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) triumph over Thabile Tshatedi.
Megan Mullen becamse the fourth Mountaineer of the season in singles action, ending the day on a high note for App with a solid 6-4,6-4 triumph as the No. 6 in the lineup over Jaclyn Findlay.
The Black and Gold look to even its weekend record tomorrow on the road against Davidson. The first serve is set for 11 a.m.
