Box Score BOONE, N.C. –– Behind 14 3-pointers and double-figure scoring from Patrick Good, Ronshad Shabazz, Emarius Logan and Jake Babic, Appalachian State University men's basketball swatted away Georgia State and moved to 3-0 against the Panthers inside the Holmes Center since joining the Sun Belt.
Down 56-48 with 11:58 to play in regulation, the Mountaineers (7-16, 2-10 Sun Belt) received a late surge off the bench from Bennett Holley who hit three 3-pointers in crucial moments for Appalachian to help them seal a five-point win over the Panthers (16-8, 9-3 Sun Belt).
Even bigger was the Mountaineers' defense down the stretch, allowing just nine points to the Panthers over the final 7:38 of the game, including two massive blocks from Isaac Johnson to help clinch the victory.
Johnson nearly finished with his second career double-double and collected nine points and 11 rebounds.
App State was led by Good's 15 points, while Shabazz notched 14 and both Logan and Babic finished with 10 points a piece. The Black and Gold shot just 3-for-7 from the line in the first half, but finished 12-for-14 in the second period to help nail down the win.
Appalachian hit on 8-of-19 threes in the second half, including three from Good.
The Mountaineers will return to the court on Monday, Feb. 13 when they host Georgia Southern for a 7 p.m. tip inside the Holmes Center.
