BOONE, N.C. - Coming off a pivotal 81-72 in overtime at Arkansas State on Saturday, Appalachian State women's basketball (9-13, 4-7 SBC) hosts archrival Georgia Southern (10-12, 6-5 SBC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. inside the Holmes Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN3.

The Mountaineers defeated Arkansas State 81-72 in overtime on the road. Q. Murray scored a career-high 25 points while Madi Story also joined 25 points, and Joi Jones scored 15. The trio combined for 65 points and 25 of the 31-made field goals. App tied a season-high in points and outscored A-State,18-9, in overtime backed by a 6-for-7 shooting performance.

What to Watch for
• In conference play, Georgia Southern is the highest ranked 3-point shooting team in the Sun Belt App has played thus far, ranking second averaging 7.4 3's per game. App State has allowed just 26 treys at home in eight games, an average of 3.3 per game. See if App can continue the trend of stopping teams from hitting the 3-ball.

• The trio of Story (14.0 ppg), Jones (13.7 ppg) and Murray (13.0 ppg) are averaging 41 of the Apps' 72.3 points (56.7 percent) in nine wins.  In their losses, the three leading scorers put in just 33.6 points combined. Anticipate on all three stepping up in the scoring column once against after turning in 65 points at Arkansas State.

• Since scoring just nine second-chance points on 22 offensive boards, the Apps have averaged 14.8 second-chance points off 17.5 offensive rebounds. Expect App to take advantage of its second-chance opportunities. Appalachian is first in Sun Belt in offensive rebound percentage at 42.1 percent.

• App State scored .953 points per possession against Arkansas State, improving to 5-1 when scoring at least .900 points per possession. See if the Black and Gold can take advantage of its possessions. 

• Georgia Southern dictated the tempo in the first game where App recorded its lowest number of possessions at 61. See if App can push the pace early and control the tempo. 

Georgia Southern (10-12, 6-5 SBC)

• Georgia Southern is riding a season-long three-game win streak after sweeping Lousiana and most recently ULM on Saturday.

• The Eagles are led by Angel McGowan (15.3 ppg) and Patrice Butler (15.0 ppg), who averages 30.3 of the Eagles' 61.8 points per game.

• Patrice Butler leads the team averaging 7.0 rpg, while Alexis Sams leads GS with 50 assists.

• Despite the recent improvement during the three-game win streak, GS is 3-7 on the road. 

• The Eagles are second in field goal percentage defense limiting opponents to just 35.2 percent shooting.

•  GS is also third averaging 40.5 rebounds per game and third in 3-pointers made per game at 7.4.

• The Eagles have averaged 9.3 trifectas over the three-game win streak, including 20 3-pointers  over the last two games against Louisiana and ULM. 

Series History

• Appalachian is 7-4 in the last 11 contests against Georgia Southern despite falling by three, 53-50, to its archrival in the first contest.

• The Mountaineers haven't lost two straight at home to the Eagles since the 2008-09/2009-10 seasons.

• Story notched her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the setback.

• Appalachian scored just three points in the second quarter and shot 2-for-10 in the final few minutes that helped GS capture the win.
