App State Falls to Old Dominion on the Road

NORFOLK, VA- The Appalachian State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss on the road in Norfolk against Old Dominion.

After playing in Greenville, N.C. on Saturday, the Apps fell in each of the doubles matches and were unable to pick up a point in singles play.

At No. 1 doubles, Gabrielle Wreder and Megan Mullen fell to Holly Hutchinson and Nataliia Vlasova 6-1. Heidi Swope and McKayla Zupan dropped the No. 2 doubles match to Ingrid Vojcinakova and Natalya Malenko, 6-0.

No. 3 doubles featured Marisa Anthony and Remi Andre, who played together for the first time in the spring season, came up short against Borislava Botusharova and Marijana Novakovic, 6-1.

Rebecca Morse played the No. 1 spot for the Mountaineers and fell to Hutchinson, 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 2 singles, Wreder took Vojcinakova into the tie breaker in the second set, but was unable to come away with a win and was defeated, 6-0, 7-6.

Swope was able to keep the match close by also taking her second into the tiebreaker, but Eliska Petrackova came away with the point for the Monarchs,  6-3, 7-6.

The No. 4 player for the Apps, Melissa Machado, fell to Malenko, 3-6, 6-3.

No. 5 singles featured Anthony and Raskovic with Raskovic outlasting Anthony 6-4, 6-2.

Andre competed for the first time this spring in singles play for the Apps, but fell to Novakovic 6-0, 6-2, at No. 6.

The Apps look to rebound against Radford on Saturday, Feb. 11th at 2 p.m.
