BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University men's tennis men (2-1) swept past Lees-McRae, 7-0, on Sunday morning at Deer Valley Racquet Club.
Each of the doubles pairings for the Black and Gold was debuted today, as each pairing appeared for the first time together this season. All three of the doubles matches went to the Mountaineers on Sunday.
In addition, five of the six singles matches resulted in straight sets.
“From start to finish, I thought we played really well,” stated head coach Bob Lake. “Some of the guys were able to get their first wins of the season, and we got to see some different pairings in doubles play. It was great to have everyone contribute to the win, and I couldn't be more proud of the team today.”
Alex Pavkovich and Alexander Free took the first doubles match of the day, 6-3 versus Sebastian Zuhr and Cole Douglas Fields.
At No. 3 doubles, Milo Bargeron and Campbell Stone clinched the doubles point, 6-3, against Thomas Deeley and Grant Miller.
Scott Webster and Alex Brea were able to finish No. 1 doubles as they beat Gabe Muniz and Garrett Lakey, 6-2.
Jack Maddocks played in the No. 1 spot for the first time this season and took the first set, 6-0. Muniz was able to capture the second set, 6-4, but Maddocks dominated the third set winning, 6-0, and clinching the match for Appalachian.
Brea finished his singles match in two sets defeating Zuhr 6-3, 6-4, while Bargeron and Lakey were the second singles match to finish on the day, as the Apps took the No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-3).
Pavkovich continued the sweep of the Bobcats as he defeated Fields 6-2, 6-0 before at No. 5 singles, Galen Arney (Boulder, Colo. / Boulder) finished off Brandon Caldwell 6-3, 6-2.
Free completed the sweep of the Bobcats by defeating Deeley 6-2, 6-1.
The Apps look to extend their winning streak to three on Saturday, Feb. 4 versus UNC Asheville at 3 p.m.
